3rd year participating in this lovely event, 1ST year that I actually have pies for sale this early in the holiday season!! You can preorder apple crumble, pumpkin, or pecan pies for pickup at @goodfarmsgoodfood fest this Sunday, 11-4!

We have three other markets for pickup closer to Thanksgiving, and some potential options in Havertown (tbd). Note that pies are pre-baked and frozen, ready to just pop in the oven on the big day and voila.

Pie season is sort of the thorn in my side, but I truly feel an obligation to my fellow gluten-free friends to make sure noooobody sits at a Thanksgiving table without a slice of pie! 🥧

Please note, pies won’t be available until the NOVEMBER market dates, but you can preorder whenever your heart desires!

Post 3/3: On one hand, I look back at the last four years and all the changes I made so quickly to adapt to such a finite amount of time. Admittedly I bit off more than I could chew, more than once. But on the other hand, I have learned so much about the art of baking, small business ownership, and my own self, that I wouldn’t have done anything differently. I’m sorry you can’t find our product as easily or as often as in the past, but I still appreciate everyone’s continuous support when they do come across our tent!

We are always seeking new wholesale partnerships, so feel free to reach out, or recommend your favorite spots! We’re geared up for another great fall season and I am so happy to be in my fourth year of selling what I love to do! 👩🏻‍🍳

Post 2/3: So, I found an awesome opportunity to rent a small commercial kitchen space at the Artisan Exchange in West Chester, where the owners were so helpful and the general atmosphere with fellow small business owners taught me so much about the grit involved in running and sustaining a food business. Three fantastic bakers helped me through 75+ markets a year, plus wholesale partnerships and Thanksgiving pie seasons. 2022-2023 were such wild, unforgettable years for Swheat Escape and despite the limits I constantly pushed for myself, it was so fun and worth it!

But, once my husband and I welcomed our son into the world, Swheat Escape took a wayyy way back seat for the new center of my universe. Having a corporate career alongside Swheat Eacape has always given me the privilege to make this business as big or as small as I want. It was a bittersweet decision, but I felt the largest weight lifted off my shoulders when I ended my lease with Artisan Exchange and reverted back to a much more modestly-scaled business out of my home. With that, I had to cut back on production, but we still have lots of opportunities for customers to access our product!

Now, we attend the West Chester Growers, Growing Roots Downingtown, and Media farmers markets once a month each, September-November, and we will once again be offering Thanksgiving and holiday pies!
In addition, you can find us year round at these amazing small businesses with whom I am so grateful to partner. If you’re ever wondering what to try first, I believe my lemon ricotta muffins are truly legendary, and my cookies & cream brownies and dulce de leche espresso brownies are like nothing I’ve ever had anywhere before.

Hi, I want to take time to reintroduce Swheat Escape!

For those of you who are new followers, and to all my current beloved customers, a lot has changed for Swheat Escape over the last year and I want to share some updates.

For those who are new: Hi, I’m Maddy! I was diagnosed with celiac disease in 2010, and after graduating from college totally frustrated with the lack of GF offerings at the time, cooking and baking became one of my ultimate hobbies.

I initially launched Swheat Escape in 2018 as a way to share my GF recipes on a blog. As a marketing and business development professional by day, I quickly learned that more time behind a computer screen after work hours was definitely not my joy, and I thrived most when I was experimenting in the kitchen.

As I was perfecting my own all-purpose GF flour blend, I realized I still wanted to share my favorite recipes, but I didn’t want the burden of expectation to publish new recipes on a regular basis. Once the pandemic hit, I embraced the inordinate amount of time at home to create and self-publish a 90-recipe GF cookbook, which heavily features the successful usage my own flour blend. By fall 2020, I decided to market and sell my book and my flour as a nice combination for homemade GF eats.

Once the initial sales dropped off, I had a “now what?” moment (or two!) and decided that I really wanted to pursue selling some of my baked goods. I reached out to farmer’s markets in the greater Philly area, and much to my surprise, I was the premier GF vendor for many of them! The interest and support kept growing and growing at a pace that I could no longer keep up with on my own, so I asked for some help. For my second market season, I had two amazing women who are also passionate about GF lined up to help manage the markets. But, as our market attendance increased, so did the demand for my product; now I was also overcapacity with my own baking time.
